Yingzi Yang, PhD
Professor of Developmental Biology
Associate Dean for Translational Research
Harvard School of Dental Medicine
Dr. Yingzi Yang completed her B.S. degree from the Fudan University in Shanghai, China. She studied developmental biology under the guidance of Dr. Lee Niswander at the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Institute, where she was awarded Ph.D. in Molecular Biology by Medical College of Cornell University in New York City. After completing a postdoctoral fellowship in mammalian developmental genetics in the laboratory of Dr. Andy McMahon at Harvard University, she joined the Genetic Disease Research Branch of the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) as a tenure–track investigator in 2000. She was head of the Developmental Genetics Section and a tenured senior investigator of NHGRI. She moved to HSDM as Professor of Developmental Biology in 2015. Dr. Yang’s research focuses on understanding cell signaling (Wnt, Hedgehog, Hippo etc) in development and diseases. Her research has bridged discoveries of fundamental mechanisms with characterization and treatment of diseases including severe birth defects, bone and liver disorders. Dr. Yang has received several honors and awards during her scientific career. She enjoys and is committed to training students at all levels. Dr. Yang serves on many professional research and education committees.
