Professor Chun-Peng Song is the President of Henan University (HENU). Besides his presidential responsibilities, he also serves as the Deputy Director for the State Key Laboratory of Cotton Biology and the Director for the Henan Provincial and National Department of Educational Key Laboratory of Stress Plant Biology. He received his doctoral degree from China Agricultural University in 1997 and he attained his Master of Science degree from Peking University in 1990. In 1995-1996, Dr. Song worked as a visiting scientist at Lancaster University in Britain and then, he continued his research studies as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Arizona from 1999 to 2003. Dr. Song is the winner of China’s prestigious program of The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and has been appointed as the Chief Scientist of the National Fundamental Research Development Program (also known as the “973” program). Aside from his scientific achievements, Dr. Song is also acclaimed for his leadership roles of Vice Chairman of Chinese Society for Plant Biology and Chinese Society of Cell Biology, President of Plant Cell Biology Committee of Botanical Society of China, and editor for academic journals of New Phytologist, Molecular Plant and Frontiers of Biology, etc., and he is the second prize winner of National Natural Science Award. Dr. Song’s research work is globally recognized and he is committed to leading and developing HENU into one of the world’s best universities in academic and research excellence.
